Carnival of Song

So it's been pretty much forever since I've checked in here -- I've been feeling kinda quiet lately, but not in a bad way. Big thanks to all of you who supported the show and WFDU this year. It's been eleven years on the air for me, and I can't tell you all how much I appreciate the chance to share the music I love with you.

Still doing poetry at Sarah Lawrence and still learning so much there. I had a reading or two and my work was very well-received, which is cool and encouraging, even though I would still be writing even if it wasn't. Have a bunch of poems out for consideration at the moment and will let you know if/when they're published so you can check 'em out.

Got to see a bunch of great shows since I've written last -- too many to recall all of them, but some that stand out are Rose's Pawn Shop last week at Parkside Lounge, Counting Crows a bunch of times this summer (my favorite band and they just keep getting better live), Elton John last week (I've been going to see him since I was 12 -- 30 years --how can that be?!), Cracker at Bowery Ballroom... the list goes on. Looking forward to Gob Iron this week, T. Griffin Coraline at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn this weekend, Ryan Adams in December, and especially Richard Buckner at Asbury Lanes (not quite as cool as the Rock N Bowl in New Orleans, but a damn cool bowling alley/concert venue in Asbury Park, NJ) in December too.

My best friend is in Egypt right now, which is amazing for him and a little scary for me, even though that's irrational, I'm sure. At any rate, I'll be glad when he's home. He's a wonderful photographer, so I can't wait to see what he captures. It's funny, when we were on our last friends vacations in NOLA, he took a picture of this drunk chick in a princess hat (You know, one of those dunce-cap-shaped-with-a-banner-flying-from-it ones) who I noticed on the street but never pointed out to anyone. He's the only other person who saw her, and he took the picture and never said anything. Guess that's why we're best friends.

Hope this finds you all healthy and well.
Lynn

P.S. Some of you who listen to the show regularly may be familiar with Frank Tedesso and his wonderful music and poetry. He doesn't have a MySpace page yet, but I did do a website for him that showcases some of his work. Just in case you'd like to check it out, it's www.franktedesso.com.
